Burial Location/Record - Thomas Oke, Mariner, 1867, Barbados

I am searching for a burial record or a grave location for a Thomas Oke who is reported (in a will extract) to have died in Barbados on/abt 17 Apr 1867. He was the Master of the brig "Dora" and sailed out of Bristol, England, probably in the sugar trade. He is likely to have died in Bridgetown as that was the main port. Were there other Barbados locations where a ship could load sugar for export?

I'm not sure if this thread is still open, but I thought i'd revive it. I'm doing some research on my family tree and my maternal Grandmother is a Jemmott but I can't seem to find any birth certificate information for that family line.

Using burial records I was able to piece a few things together:

My Grandmother is Gloria (nee Jemmott) Lythcott. Her mother was Priscilla Jemmott (1898-1967) who had a sister (possible a twin or they were born the same year) Marie Jemmott (1898 - 1939) of St. Peter. I believe their mother was Annie Jemmott (1879-1924) of St. Andrew. This is as far as burial records and "abode status" has taken me.

Does anyone have an Annie Jemmott from the St. Andrew/St. Peter/St. Lucy area in their family tree? There's a slight possibility that Annie was a middle name. Any information or guidance would be appreciated. I've been able to trace all other lines in my family except for this one. It's doing my head in.

I'm also researching the Snipes of Barbados and have put together quite a bit of information and have connected the Barbados Snipes family with the American families. One Snipes family immigrated from Barbados through Charleston, SC, another through Surry, VA, and at least one came to Maine. If you give me some information on your oldest immigrant ancestor I may be able to help you identify more family.

That would be this Thomas:
SNIPES, Thomas, planter
St Thomas Parish, 29 Mar 1679, RB6/13, p. 437
My ____John Snipes; sons William Snipes, Robert Snipes*, Richard Snipes*, & John Snipes*; dau Mary Snipes* under age; friends Howell Harris & Lt. Wm. Padmore -- Xtrs. signed Thomas (X) Snipes
Wit;: Michaell Anderson, Benj: Vaughan
Proved 1 July 1669

I believe that two of John Snipes, Sr.'s sons, John Snipes Jr, and Robert Snipes migrated to Surry, VA in about 1700, soon after their parents died in Barbados.

Hello Simone,

I wonder if you still look at this board some 15 years on? If not, can anyone else shine any light on my elusive Gilkes famiy?
My great grandfather was Edward Stanley Gilkes but I can find no record of him other than the baptism of his children, Millicent St John Gilkes in Barbados in 1886 and on the brth certificate of Arthur Seth Lamont Gilkes(my grandfather) born 1905. I know that Edward Stanley married Christiana Smith, a Barbadian, but can find n record of a marriage in Barbados. Edward was a tailor and the family lived in Hindsbury Road, Bridgetown.
Where is "Grand Anse Rec"? I've also drawn a blank on any death dates/info for Edward Stanley, Chrstiana or Millicent.
I hope someone can help, if only to tell me were Grand Anse Rec is!
Thank you.

Need Help Finding Wilkinson

My friend's grandfather Alfred Wilkinson was born St. Elizabeth Village, BWI, Barbados on 10 Apr 1893. He emigrated to the United States in 1913. Married Clara Harris ( bd 30 1897 Cullen, VA ) marriage date unknown. She was wondering if there was a possibility if there were any of her family still living in Barbados. She thinks that Alfred' s father's name was Thomas. Also if anyone knows anything about them.

Re: Benjamin Young

This is all wild speculation. Young was a common surname. Benjamin, William, Rebecca were very common given names. It was unlikely that Benjamin Young would marry at the age of 18. This is not genealogy. To come even close to proving this, you would have to find a specific link between the two families in early Baltimore. It's much more likely that Zipporah Gist married a Benjamin Young from Rowan Co, NC, or possibly from Lunenburg Co, Va, as Nathaniel may have lived there before Rowan.
